National Council of Women of Canada

The National Council of Women (NCWC) was a independently organised group, which, in itself, is a part of the International Council of Women (ICW). The ICW was founded in the United States in 1888 by women who rightfully believed they had little rights compared to the men.  There were dozen of Canadian members within the ICW which brings us to how the NCWC was created. Through having Canadian members within the ICW, there was discussion of creating a second group based in Canada in May of 1893. In October of 1893 the creation of the NCWC was confirmed, taking place in a meeting of which 1,500 women of various organisations attended.

There were many women who felt there were changes to be made, so soon they realized the would have a much louder voice in the displayed themselves as a united front.
